My photography has followed a number of strong tracks over the years. Words and language are of great interest to me, and I am a linguist by training. You will also find humor, both sardonic and metaphorical, in many of my photographs.
The effect of light is also a common theme in my work. Light can completely transform the appearance of an object or a scene. The mood is ephemeral and photography is a good tool for capturing it. More recently, I have enjoyed photographing shadows. Shadows can be evocative by implying the existence of something outside the frame of the photograph. The viewer is then automatically asked to imagine what that might be.
I have traveled extensively and my photography reflects this. Photography is a means to an end: if I see it and like it, my camera lets me keep it.
I grew up in Denver and then lived in Paris for ten years. San Francisco has been my home since late 1985.
My photography is available for sale. If you are interested in purchasing, would like to be on my mailing list or have any other comments for me, please send me a message.
